Luis Enrique could not have imagined a better way for him to kick-off his managerial career in Barcelona than how it developed as the 45 year old Spanish manager pushed the Spanish club to a treble.
Barcelona secured the Spanish League as they had 2 more points than their nearest rivals Real Madrid meanwhile in the Copa del Rey, Luis Enrique’s squad claimed a 3-1 triumph over Athletic Club during the finals and lastly, Barcelona overcame Juventus in the finals of the Champions League.
The Spanish club managed to lift all the major trophies and they are now undeniably considered to be the best team in the world.
All of these accomplishments are very difficult to do for any manager or any team and it’s even more complicated for someone who was going through his debut season.
After such an impressive opening season for Luis Enrique, he was awarded with a contract extension as Enrique penned a new deal with the club which extends until 2017.
Luis Enrique originally had a contract with Barcelona which reached 2016 but the president of the Spanish club, Josep Maria Bartomeu was so impressed by what Enrique achieved that he offered a contract extension
Barcelona’s Bartomeu said: “There is no need to suffer, Luis Enrique will continue. His season has been 10 out of 10 and there is no reason to break the contract,”
Josep Maria Bartomeu opted to extend the contract of Luis Enrique and DaniAlves before announcing his resignation from his presidential role in the club. Bartomeu was elected as the president of Barcelona after SandroRosellresigned in January of 2014. Rosell resigned after it was discovered that he was a suspect in Neymar’s transfer which involved the misappropriation of funds.
Neymar’s transfer is actually still being investigated by prosecutors of the Spanish court system as there are authorities that believe that certain documents were falsified and were used to hide the details of the deal in order to avoid paying all the taxes due.
